Established campervan converters who have been fully certificated to either National Small Series or European Type Approval can have their different conversion models recognised by the DVLA and the full converter name and individual model name will then appear on your Registration Document.
We have just completed the full process with the DVLA, so from now onwards all V5 Vehicle Registration Documents for our conversions will show the full name of Jerba Campervans, the specific model type and a three digit code that denotes the bhp, transmission type and whether the vehicle is 2 or 4 Motion. Very few UK VW campervan converters have achieved this full registration and recognition with the DVLA.
Where a converter does not have the DVLA recognition, the V5’s for their conversions will simply state Volkswagen and there will be absolutely no mention of the converter’s business name. Many converters will also record the Body Type of the vehicle on the V5 as being a Panel Van, whereas all our conversions are fully classified and recorded on the V5 as a Motorcaravan – the Body Type is an important one to be aware of as if your vehicle is classified as a Panel Van then your maximum speed is limited to 60mph on motorways and dual carriageways.
Having DVLA recognition on your V5 may not make any difference when you’re out and about enjoying the great outdoors, but it could affect the long term value of campervan.
